One simple and easy thing you can do is to simply turn off the lights when you exit a room. Most of us likely temporarily leave the living room lights turned on when we go to the kitchen to get a snack because we believe we are going to return right away. Leaving the room empty with the lights turned on can lead to as much as thirty minutes or more of squandered electrical energy if done several times a day. While 30 minutes doesn’t look like much, remember that millions upon millions of people do this each day. If you add it up, one individual could be squandering no less than 182 hours of electricity every year. Then multiply that by just 1 million individuals. That is 182,000,000 hours of energy being wasted yearly on merely one light. Do you know what happened today in history? Read more for similar historical events.

One more thing that is causing electricity to be wasted is the habit people have of going in a room and switching the lights on. This has become something that’s done by numerous people. I know I am guilty of this quite frequently. Nonetheless, there could be enough light, perhaps sunlight, coming into a room. But many of us still come into a room and switch the lights on. In addition, many of us keep forgetting to switch the lights off because there is already a great deal of natural light coming in we don’t realize the light is still on. You merely have to make a conscious effort to not switch the lights on during the day unless you have to.

One other big problem is people leaving things like television and radios turned on all day even if they are not in the same room. When I come visit my mom, I have to remind her to switch the TV off as she would leave it running even though she’s not watching. This is a huge waste of electrical energy. If you are not going to be in the room anymore and the television is turned on, switch it off. Are you aware that on Apr 29, 1953 the first experimental 3D-TV broadcast aired an episode of Space Patrol on Los Angeles ABC affiliate KECA-TV?
